So it has been a while since I posted on a regular basis, I am renewing my commitment to place at least a few posts a week. Starting today.
So many apps to share and so little time

Facebook IM plugin for Pidgin
by rbocchinfuso on Dec.16, 2008, under Uncategorized
Pidgin is hands down the best multi-protocol cross-platform instant messaging client. The other day I cam across a Facebook IM plugin, pretty cool other than the fact that it looks like I am on Facebook all day now
Facebook, Twitter, FriendFeed, Flickr and Jaiku all streamed to your desktop

Many twitters have used or heard of twirl which is great for twitting but does not support Facebook. Feedalizr is a newcomer but this Adobe Air app is well positioned to eclipse twirl, if you are a power twitter you may still find a need for TweetDeck to organize your tweets.

The only way to torrent
by rbocchinfuso on Dec.15, 2008, under Uncategorized
Why download torrents with you main desktop or laptop when you can re-purpose an old PC as a torrent server. TorrentFlux is a great PHP web based torrent client. Once you use it you will never go back to desktop torrent applications. There is also a TorrentFlux virtual appliance that you can download from here.

Setting your default web browser in Windows
by rbocchinfuso on Dec.13, 2008, under Uncategorized
This can be an aggravating task, the “Set Program Access and Defaults” in windows rarely works as it should. I came across the DefaultBrowser utility which not only works well but also provides the ability to set the default browser on a per user basis as opposed to system wide.
Nicely done Microsoft desktop blogging application
by rbocchinfuso on Dec.13, 2008, under Uncategorized
For years I have used Blogdesk as my desktop blogging application of choice but I recently switched to Microsoft Live Writer and I am very happy with the application. I was surprised at Microsoft’s support for WordPress, but it has worked flawlessly thus far.
Unfortunately not all web apps are Gecko friendly
by rbocchinfuso on Dec.13, 2008, under Uncategorized
If you are like me you prefer to use the Gecko engine for web browsing. My browsers of choice are Firefox and k-meleon but there are some apps which just don’t play well with with the Gecko engine. Most notably is Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA), the IE Tab add-on for Firefox is a good choice for OWA but I often browse with k-meleon so I started using Bubbles a cool little app that uses the IE engine and makes OWA feel like a desktop app. If you use IE Tab and Firefox and like the concept of making a web app feel like a desktop app also check out the Prism add-on for Firefox.
